We are pleased to announce that the University has appointed Dr. Farshad Fotouhi who will take up his new position effective March 1, 2010.
Dr Fotouhi has been with Wayne State University since 1998 when he was hired as a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science. During his tenure, he has been awarded the Wayne State University College of Science Teaching Excellence Award as well as the Best Paper Award. In 2004 he was promoted to Chair of the Department of Computer Science. In this position, he developed and implemented a comprehensive strategic plan for the Department. Among other things, the plan has resulted in increased research productivity resulting in the national ranking of the Department, the establishment of Study Abroad opportunities for department students in France and Romania, and new interdisciplinary programs.
Before coming to Wayne State University, Dr. Fotouhi was on the faculty at the Lyman Briggs School at Michigan State University where he taught computer programming. He also secured funding for and established the first computer lab for the Lyman Briggs School.
Since 1995, Dr. Fotouhi has been a Partner at Intelligent Media, LLC where he has worked to secure funding and contracts for various database and web-related projects. As a part of Intelligent Media, he also designed and developed several software systems for the Ford Motor Company that were in place for several years.
Dr. Fotouhi received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Mathematics as well as a Master’s degree in computer science from Western Michigan University. He also holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Michigan State University.
