We are pleased to announce that the University has appointed Kevin Graffagnino, pending formal approval by the Board of Regents. He will begin his new post on November 17th, 2008.
Graffagnino is currently the Executive Director of the Vermont Historical Society, where he has worked since 2003. He oversees the library, archives, museum, publications, education and outreach at the Society. Under his leadership, the Society received a national medal for public service from the Institute for Museum and Library Services.
From 1999 to 2003 Graffagnino served as Executive Director of the Kentucky Historical Society. Prior to that, he was Director of the Library of the Historical Society of Wisconsin. Earlier in his career, Graffagnino also served as Head of Special Collections at Library of the University of Vermont Library, where he also taught survey level through graduate courses in history. He brings to the University of Michigan a wide range of scholarly and administrative experiences, including the management of multi-million budgets and the supervision of more than ninety full-time employees.
In the course of his career Graffagnino has given hundreds of public talks and lectures, and authored or edited sixteen books. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Vermont, and a doctorate from the University of Massachusetts.
