We are happy to announce that the Memphis College of Art has appointed Ron Jones President effective May 16, 2001.

 

Currently, Dr. Jones is the Dean of the College of Arts at the University of South Florida, a position he has held since 1998. Prior to his deanship at USF, Dr. Jones served as Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University from 1995 to 1998, and Dean of the School of the Arts and  Humanities at Shepherd University from 1990 to 1995.

 

Active nationally, Dr. Jones has served on panels for the National Endowment for the Arts and was elected to the National Council for Policy Study in Art, a group of fifty leading art education scholars; and he has coordinated a National Art Education Association national convention. He served as President of the Florida Higher Education Network and is Past-President of the International Council of Fine Arts Deans, serving now as Coordinator of National Advocacy for the arts in higher education. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Tampa Museum of Art, chairing their Collections Committee, and he has worked tirelessly for the arts in the Tampa Bay region with the local arts agencies. Recently, Dr. Jones was invited to the White House to discuss the arts in higher education and was selected co-chair of the national arts education council of the American for the Arts.

 

Dr. Jones has published over twenty professional articles on aesthetics, art education, and criticism, written art reviews and contributed three book chapters, including Modern and Postmodern: Contemporary Pedagogy in the Visual Arts for the anthology, Art Education: Content and Practice in a Postmodern Era. He earned a Ph.D. in Aesthetics Education from the University of Maryland, his Master’s from Arizona State University, and a B.A. in Art and English from Shepherd University in West Virginia.
